Well if it isn't the big abortion debate. Alright here's the deal. What business is it of yours if a woman all the way on the other side of the country gets an abortion? And what about this bombing of an abortion clinic? Oh I see,you can't take a fetus out but you can kill and injure innocent people with bombs. Sure, that's okay. "America has suffered seven clinic murders, 16 attempted murders, more than 200 bombings and arsons, 750 death threats and bomb threats, and hundreds of other 'pro-life' crimes, and thats just in the 90s" according to James Haught. (http://www.wvinter.net/~haught/alliance.html) Okay now here's the big debate though. When does life start? Some say when you can detect a heartbeat. Some say when it starts breathing. Some say when it comes out. If you say it has all its major systems and organs at the of 3 months, why would it wait till the ninth or tenth month to come out? To finish forming? Of course....which is why it's a FETUS. Not a baby yet. A fetus is a fetus, a baby is a baby. An ABORTION (in Webster's Dictionary) is defined as "any expulsion of an embryo or fetus BEFORE it is sufficiently developed to survive." Also according to the Webster's Dictionary, a "fetus" is "the unborn young of a mammal while still in uterus or egg..." It goes on to say that after 2 and a half months, THEN it's considered a viable child. Is that clear enough? Good. Now that does not talk about partial birth abortions (which I think are rather disturbing, however, people will continue to do them, and we really can do nothing about that). I do think adoption is a good option. However, there are children sitting in foster homes, who have been there for years. If parents want a child so bad, adopt who you can. Just because they're not young doesn't mean they're not worthy of adoption. Look at all the older children that have been there and looked over because they're not younger. According to www.adoption.about.com, the age at which children were adopted was as follows: Under 1 year: 2%; 1-5 Years: 46%; 6-10 Years: 37%; 11-15 years: 14%; 16-18 Years: 2%. Look at the low numbers of older children. As of March 2000, there were 547,000 children in foster care in the United States(AFCARS 2000). Where are all the 1.2 million americans who want to adopt so badly? If they want to adopt, there shouldn't be this many children still in foster care. And also, only 1% of children in foster care go into a fully adopted family. (This info was based on information found in the Yearly Adoption Research Statistics on adoption.about.com just in case you want to check it out.) Let me tell you something about my opinions though. I don't condone women who keep getting abortions just because it's convenient. I am really not anti or pro abortion. I am pro-choice. I don't think it's right to use an abortion for convenience sake either. If you were responsible enough to get into bed, you're responsible enough to take care of your "mistake". But sometimes, if the child really wouldn't be taken care of, I think it's best in those situations. Everyone makes mistakes. It doesn't mean they're bad people and it certainly doesn't mean they're going to hell either. It was a mistake. To put it simply, to outlaw abortions will do nothing. People had abortions performed before they were legal, and will keep having them done. I myself would rather have legalized abortions just because they are safer because they can be performed in clinics rather than out of the back of a van. Also, keep your nose in your own business and don't tell other people what to do. If you don't like it, tough. But of course, that's just my opinion...and while its' a good one, it's not the only one. |
